ESR 5 Medical University of Graz -AUSTria

Title of the project: Structure, function, and applications of cell-surface proteins

This PhD position offers the opportunity to delve into the understanding of archaeal cell surface structures and their genomic organization and regulation. Archaea of human and environmental relevance will be studied using multi-omics and ultrastructural analysis to scrutinize their surface structures in detail.

Through the utilization of transcriptomics and genetic methods, the genes involved in the formation and regulation of archaeal external processes will be investigated. These processes are crucial for interaction with their biological environment, but not yet well understood.

The overarching goal is to develop biotechnologically relevant products, with a focus on creating applications for understudied archaeal structures.

Secondments are planned to an industrial and academic ARCTECH partner to facilitate the acquisition of specific technologies required for the project’s execution.
