DC 9 Bruker Optics Ashfaq Ahammed

I have an academic background in Physics, with a specialization in Photonics at both my Bachelor’s and Master’s levels. I began my professional journey as an Optical Engineer at a startup in India, where I gained hands-on experience in optical system design within a manufacturing environment. During this time, I also worked closely with customers, translating their requirements into practical engineering solutions.

For my Master’s thesis, I had the opportunity to work at the ICFO – The Institute of Photonic Sciences in Barcelona, Spain, under the supervision of Nicoletta Liguori in the Photon Harvesting in Plants and Biomolecules group.

Project Title:

Development of Novel Microscopy Tools for Studies in Archaea

My scientific interest:

I have always been driven by a curiosity to explore the interface between biology and photonics, and the ARCTECH programme offered the perfect opportunity to pursue this interdisciplinary path. Moving forward, I am eager to deepen my expertise and actively contribute to advancing research and innovation in this field.

I like to do in my free time:

In my free time, I enjoy reading and staying active through sports, which helps me maintain both physical and mental balance. I also have a strong interest in traveling, as it allows me to experience different cultures and perspectives.

Alongside this, I run my own fashion brand in India, Foodle, which I work on during my free time. It serves as a creative outlet beyond my academic work and allows me to explore branding, design, and entrepreneurship.

What motivates me is a combination of curiosity and the desire to build something meaningful—whether through my research or through creative ventures outside of it.
