Project title: Interaction of the archaeal cell surface with viruses

This particular PhD position is aimed at identifying novel receptors used by archaeal viruses for host recognition. The role of these viral receptors in viral genome delivery will be studied. Evolutionary pressure of the presence of viruses on representation of viral receptors at the cell surfaces will be monitored. In the project RNAseq, proteomics, light and electron microscopy, molecular microbiology and virology methods will be applied. The identification and characterization of novel archaeal viral receptors is relevant to map the impact that viral infections have on ecosystems and in biotechnological set-ups, such as in bioreactors.
